Am impressed and humbled at the way y'all have been able to build a real community that can even deal with a dead sheep. That seems fairly collapse-proof.

By contrast, I have been frustrated with most of my fellow Riptonites, who spout eco-this and eco-that, and seem determined to build a suburban bedroom community.

There's a lot that I could learn from you. Thanks !!!

An update on Tunbridge Woolworks: Marian has moved on to the 'greener pastures' of Peace Corps, to the northeast of Australia (about 1000 miles) and has sold the business to me. I look forward to helping you with your wool processing needs, and am only 1.5 hours away from Tunbridge in Hebron, NH.
I'll be at the Vermont Festival and hope to get acquainted with many of you. I won't have a booth this year, but will at the NH Festival, and next year in Vermont. See you soon! Phyllis Rockwell - Newfound Farm Wool Works

Ran across your blog while trying to figure out when to harvest potimarron. I know this is a winter squash and assume I can leave it on the vine till near frost. But I'm wondering if it is ready to eat now?
As to your question on how to cook it...this is my first...but I figured I would bake it similar to how I bake acorn.
So....are you already harvesting your potimarron?

Nice pix! All my asiatic/oriental lilies have been eaten by slugs or beetles this year. I love them but I am going to take a few years off so the beetles move away. On weeding, I just try to make sure that the flowers are taller than the weeds...

Great pictures and what a fun tour :-)
Dave's gardens are orderly like John's. When I plan the vegetable garden, I figure I'll know what it is when it comes up, so why bother marking it - and I plant in wiggly rows :D
Gandalf is really a handsome boy.
